Google May Be Bringing Back View Counts on Google Business Posts

Something small but genuinely useful might be making a comeback on Google Business Profiles. According to Search Engine Roundtable, Google appears to be testing a return of view counts on Google Posts, the updates business owners can publish directly on their Google Business Profile. It's showing up as a simple people viewed number under individual posts, and it's only appearing for a small number of accounts right now.
A Bit of Background
Google actually had this feature years ago. Back in 2018, Google Posts came with proper insights, showing business owners how many views and clicks each post was getting. That data disappeared in January 2023 when Google quietly removed it, leaving business owners publishing posts with no real way to tell if anyone was actually seeing them.
What Is Being Tested Now
A view count labelled people viewed has started showing up under some Google Posts, spotted and shared by a user on LinkedIn. It hasn't rolled out broadly, and Google hasn't made any official announcement about it, so this looks like an early, limited test rather than a confirmed feature. It's worth noting Google has also recently brought back view counts on photos and videos within Business Profiles, so there does seem to be a pattern of some of these older insights slowly making a return.
Why This Actually Matters
Right now, posting on a Google Business Profile is largely a leap of faith. You write the post, publish it, and hope it's getting seen. Without any performance data, it's genuinely hard to tell whether your posting strategy is working or whether you're just adding content nobody looks at. Bringing back even a basic view count would give business owners a simple way to see which posts are landing and which ones are not, without needing to dig into more complex analytics tools.
What This Means for Your Google Business Profile
There's nothing to change or set up right now, since this is still a limited test and not something you can turn on. But it's a good moment to think about your posting habits more broadly. If you haven't posted on your Google Business Profile in a while, this is a reasonable nudge to start again, since Google clearly still sees value in the feature.
It's also worth keeping your posts genuinely useful rather than just filler. Photos, offers, updates and short announcements all tend to perform better than generic posts, and if view counts do roll out properly, that difference will finally be measurable.
